Daxotel is formulated by using docetaxel and belongs to a class of medications called taxanes. The medicine may be used alone or in combination with other drugs, for curing certain types of breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, prostate, stomach and head and neck cancers. This medicine also works by slowing down the growth of certain cancer cells.
Supplied as: Available as 20mg, 80mg & 120mg single dose vial.
Overdose: Burning, numbness, tingling, or loss of sensation in the hands or feet; mouth and throat sores or inflammation; fever, chills, skin irritation and severe weakness or tiredness.
Precautions and Warnings Not to be taken without doctor’s consultation, if the patient has low white–blood-cell counts or abnormal liver function.
Side effects Probability is higher in patients with abnormal liver function and lung cancer patients who have been treated with platinum-based chemotherapy
Not to be consumed by patients who are allergic to polysorbate 80 or any ingredient in Daxotel. The allergic symptoms are rash, warm sensation, itching/hives, reddening of the skin, tightness in your chest, swelling of the mouth, face, or tongue, severe dizziness or trouble breathing
The medicine may cause severe fluid retention. Doctor must be informed if the patient experiences swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; sudden unusual weight gain, trouble breathing, chest pain or tightness, fast or irregular heartbeat or stomach swelling. Before each Daxotel treatment, patients may receive another medicine called dexamethasone. It may help in reducing the risk of fluid retention (edema) and allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions The following drugs may interact with Daxotel:
- Azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole)
- Aprepitant
- Macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin)
- Cimetidine
- Rifamycins (rifabutin)
- St john's wort
- Anti-seizure medicine (carbamazepine
- The risk of daxotel's side effects may be increased by nifedipine or troleandomycin
- Additional monitoring of the dose or condition may be required if cyclosporine or terfenadine are taken along with daxotel

- Chest pain or tightness
- Fainting, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
- Constipation, fever, chills, or sore throat
- Flushing, increased or painful urination
- Muscle, joint, or bone pain
- Severe or persistent dizziness or headache
- Severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain
- Hair loss
- Nail changes, sudden unusual weight gain and nosebleeds
- Swelling of the hands, feet, or ankles
- Swollen lymph glands
- Trouble swallowing and vision problems
- Warm sensation and yellowing of the eyes or skin
